Arts Ministry

Redemptorist Evangelization Through Media & Arts (RETMA)

Under the direction of Father Lenny Delgado, RETMA strives to communicate the "plentiful redemption" of God via the arts.

Through the use of drama, music, film, and preaching, RETMA has succeeded in moving hearts to a deeper commitment to the Lord and his mission. RETMA pushes the envelope by producing works that challenge the "hearer of the Word."

These productions, retreats, and missions deal with issues and situations that degrade and ostracize people, especially the poor among us. These works invite conversation about our commitment to love, forgiveness, justice, and peace.

The goal, as with any form of evangelization, is to remind people of God's total unconditional love for them and for the most unfortunate. We trust that this fact will move people to a conversion of heart, to a total dedication to the Lord and to our brothers and sisters.

Our late Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, wrote about the importance of art in the Church in his Letter to Artists:

In situations where culture and the Church are far apart, art remains a kind of bridge to religious experience. Art is by its nature a kind of appeal to the mystery. Even when they explore the darkest depths of the soul or the most unsettling aspects of evil, artists give voice in a way to the universal desire for redemption. The Church is especially keen that in our own time there be a new alliance with artists. I appeal to you, artists of the written and spoken word, of the theatre and music. I appeal especially to you, Christian artists: I wish to remind each of you that you are invited to use your creative intuition to enter into the heart of the mystery of the Incarnate God and at the same time into the mystery of man.
