Later this month, Father Bruce Lewandowski will begin his new assignment as the first vicar for cultural ministries in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The outgoing pastor of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in the Kensington section of the city has ministered to various immigrant communities, especially Hispanic Catholics, for the majority of his priesthood.
A recent story in the Catholic Standard & Times explains the new ways Father Lewandowski will be serving the diocese:
Auxiliary Bishop John J. McIntyre, who oversees the Secretariat for Evangelization in which the new vicar will serve, believes the appointment represents an expansion of the Archdiocese’s responsiveness to three areas under its charge.
“This (structure) allows the Archdiocese to give greater attention and concern for each of the communities and the offices that serve them,” the bishop said.

“I’ve been working in the Hispanic Apostolate for the past 17 years,” (Father Lewandowski) said. “I planned for it while I was still in the seminary.”
“I’m a student in this,” he said. “It will be an education for me. I am excited at the opportunity. It is a tremendous privilege, as a Redemptorist, to be ministering where St. John Neumann ministered, also to immigrants.”
Please pray for Father Lewandowski and his fellow Redemptorists who will also begin new assignments this summer.
