Thomas Anthony Burke was born on January 2, 1956 in Brooklyn, NY. The son of William and Mary (Murphy), he was baptized (January 22, 1956) at St. Francis Xavier Church, Brooklyn and confirmed (April 15, 1967) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Brooklyn.
He studied at St. Mary’s, North East, PA (1969-1973) and St. Alphonsus College, Suffield, CT (1973-1975), entering the Redemptorist novitiate at Oconomowoc, WI (1975-1976).
He professed vows as a Redemptorist on July 31, 1976 at Suffield, CT and final vows at Mt. St. Alphonsus, Esopus, NY (September 23, 1979). He completed his philosophy studies at Suffield (1976-1978) and theological studies at Mt. St. Alphonsus (1978-1982), where he was ordained on May 23, 1981.
First assigned to Immaculate Conception, the Bronx (1982-1984), he had provincial assignments at Sacred Heart of Jesus, Baltimore (1984-1987), St. Mary’s, Annapolis (1989-1993). In the English-speaking Region of the Caribbean, he was stationed at Holy Cross, St. Croix (1987-1989).
The remainder of his career was spent in the Vice-Province of Richmond: Griffin, GA (1995-1999); St. John the Evangelist, Hapeville, GA (1999-2004); St. Anne/St. Jude, Sumpter, SC (2004-2015)(Pastor 2005-2015); Sacred Heart, New Smyrna Beach, FL (Pastor, 2015-2020)(Vice Provincial Vicar).
His death was on August 8, 2020 at St. Alphonsus Villa, New Smyrna Beach, FL.
