Is there a more heartbreaking verse in the Bible than this? “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” (Psalm 22:2).
Jesus is saying to his Father from the cross, “Are you here with me? Am I dying alone? Are you in this horrible, dark place?” But then he says, trustingly, “Into your hands, Father, I commend my spirit” (Luke 23:46).
Jesus did not run from suffering. He faced the cross.
So when we face the cross in our own lives—whether it’s on a physical plane, emotional suffering, spiritual heartache, or just watching the news and seeing how much suffering there is in the world—we can look at the cross and realize that if God was at Calvary (and he was) and if God was dying on the cross (and he was), that means God is in every place of pain and suffering.
God is there. God has not abandoned the poor and all the pain-filled people of our world.
Rejoice. Lay palms at his feet. Christ Jesus has overcome the bonds of sin and death. The world will never be the same.

Los cristianos celebramos hoy el Domingo de Ramos. Comenzamos la Semana Santa con gloria y dolor. Este domingo tiene dos elementos característicos: la entrada procesional y el evangelio de la Pasión.
Las alabanzas que la multitud dedicó a Jesús en su entrada a Jerusalén, con palmas y “hosannas”, y luego la Eucaristía, con las tres lecturas apuntando al drama de la cruz, sobre todo, el evangelio de la Pasión (Lucas 22:14-23, 56).
La entrada de Jesús en la ciudad santa fue acompañada por un inesperado entusiasmo por parte de la gente sencilla, pero él iniciaba esta última semana de su vida dispuesto a cumplir su misión con la muerte en la cruz.
Hoy al igual que ayer, a ejemplo de las multitudes que aclamaban a Jesús en su entrada a Jerusalén, vayamos cantando y glorificando a Dios, para celebrar sus maravillas. Con esta procesión hacemos nuestra profesión de fe en que la cruz y la muerte de Cristo son en definitiva una victoria.
