Our parish in the Bronx, Immaculate Conception, recently celebrated its 125th anniversary. The special Mass drew current and former parishioners, as well as alumni from the parish school some of whom had graduated in the 1940s. Begun as a German-Irish community along Melrose Avenue in the South Bronx, Immaculate Conception continues as a bustling center of spiritual and material help and hope, serving a diverse population hailing from many different countries including several Latin American and African countries.
As we continue to pray for all those affected by Superstorm Sandy, the Redemptorists at our retreat house in Long Branch, NJ, are beginning to pick up the pieces from the storm. The big crucifix in our "backyard," along the beach, remained standing strong in the middle of a field of debris.
