Redemptorists have served the people of Lima, Ohio, since 1916. At one time, the rectory at St. Gerard Parish was used as a novitiate residence, where young men discerning the call to join the Redemptorists spent more time in prayer and study before making their first vows.
The number of Redemptorists serving St. Gerard Parish isn’t as large as in the past, but they’ve found a new use for the lesser-used parts of their "home."
The third floor of the rectory, which had housed a library and many bedrooms, has been renovated to become the Redemptorist Spirituality Center. The Redemptorists have already opened the doors of their home to several small retreat groups for days of recollection and overnight and weekend retreats. Renovations were made possible by an anonymous donor, and donations are still needed to completely furnish the rooms and gathering spaces.
