Redemptorists sign Statement of Solidarity/Declaración de Solidaridad against Arizona immigration la

Redemptorist missionaries who work with Hispanic populations across the U.S. recently gathered at the Redemptorist Renewal Center in Tucson, AZ, for their annual Encuentro meeting.

The location for the gathering had been set for over a year, well before Arizona lawmakers approved a controversial state law aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration. The Catholic bishops of Arizona and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have opposed the law as being unjust, and one that would negatively impact immigrants in ways that are not allowed under federal law.

The Redemptorists and Missionary Sisters of Perpetual Help who participated in the meeting unanimously approved a Statement of Solidarity in opposition to the law. They joined the bishops in calling on the federal and state governments to work together for comprehensive immigration reform.
