Father Joseph Hurley, a former provincial of the Baltimore province, died suddenly Oct. 30 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Seaford, DE, where he was stationed. He was 81. A viewing will be held Nov. 3 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Seaford, DE, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Nov. 4 at Our Lady of Lourdes at 11 a.m. Another viewing will be held Nov. 5 at Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center in Esopus, NY, at 10 a.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. followed by burial in the Redemptorist cemetery.

Redemptorist Father Jim Szobonya will be featured on the Living Scripture Show Nov. 1 at 9:30 a.m. on Telecare TV , available to Cablevision and Verizon FiOS subscribers in the vicinity of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY.

Redemptorist Worldwide Chapter | Rome, Italy October 30, 2009 When I told my family and friends that I was going to Rome for a month, they told me how lucky I was. When I explained that it was not for a vacation but a meeting, they asked, “What could you talk about for a month?” Good question.

Last Sunday, friends and family of Redemptorists who have died in the last year gathered at Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center in Esopus, NY, to pray for the deceased and give thanks for their lives of service.

Redemptorist Father Herman Brinkmann, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 25, at the St. John Neumann Residence at Stella Maris in Timonium, MD. The Philadelphia-native was born May 27, 1928, and professed vows as a Redemptorist August 2, 1949.

Redemptorist Father Herman Brinkmann, a hero to heroes and a spiritual father to thousands across the world, died of cancer on Oct. 25 at St. John Neumann Residence in Timonium, MD. He was 81 years old.

Here’s a sample of a day at the Chapter: Mass at 7 a.m. Breakfast at 8 Morning Prayer at 8:30 Session from 9:30 to 11 Coffee break Session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dinner, the main meal of the day Pasta at every meal, light on the meat, good bread, and nice wine.

In time for the Year for Priests, Redemptorist Father Dennis Billy has published a new book on the Eucharist. The Beauty of the Eucharist: Voices from the Church Fathers explores the thoughts and teachings about the Eucharist from some of the Church’s earliest writers.

Redemptorist Father Raymond J. Weithman died Oct. 16 at age 80. A wake service will be held Oct. 19 at Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center in Esopus, NY, at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be offered Oct. 20 at Mount St. Alphonsus at 11 a.m.

Today in Rome, Italy, Redemptorists from around the world are gathering to open the Congregation’s 24th General Chapter. The meeting, which is held every six years and lasts about a month, brings together representatives of the Order from around the globe to elect new leaders and help guide the Redemptorists’ future work.

Happy Feast Day! Today the Redemptorists celebrate the feast of one of their great confreres — St. Gerard Majella, a Redemptorist brother who, though he died at the young age of 29, already had a reputation for saintliness.

Redemptorist Father Raymond Weithman, who worked in the foreign missions and with the mission-preaching bands in the U.S., died of an aneurism Friday, Oct. 16, at the Massachusetts home of a longtime family friend.

A group of young men discerning a call to the Redemptorist way of life traveled to New Orleans last weekend to celebrate the feast of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, a 19th-century Redemptorist priest whose sainthood cause is moving forward.
