This Italian blessed was a contemporary of St. Alphonsus Liguori and became a Redemptorist one year after the congregation was founded. He was beatified by Pope St. John Paul II on May 12, 1996. Gennaro Sarnelli was born in Naples, Italy, on September 12, 1702.
June 28 is the feast day of the Redemptorist martyrs of Ukraine, modern-day men who gave their lives for the faith. Two were bishops, two were priests, and all were among the 25 Ukrainian martyrs beatified during Pope St. John Paul II’s visit to Lviv in 2001.

Father Francis Gargani, C.Ss.R. Father Francis Gargani, C.Ss.R., was honored June 4 with OneSpirit Learning Alliance’s Service to Humanity Award. Since 2005 Father Gargani has presented an annual seminar on Catholicism for the New York City-based organization’s interfaith seminary.
Brother John Bosco Hammond, C.Ss.R., died on May 25, 2019, at age 78. He had been a member of the St. Clement’s Mission House Community in Ephrata, Pa., since June 2015. Rollin William Edward Hammond was born on October 5, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Lester and Lucy (Cosgrove).
